abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate of herbicide in high purity and yield, at a low cost, with smooth and safe steady reaction without using hardly recoverable organic solvent, by reacting a specific thiocarbamate compound with chlorine gas. n CONSTITUTION: The substituted benzenesulfonyl chloride of formula I can be produced by reacting the S-aryl dialkylthiocarbamate of formula II (X is halogen, phenyl, phenoxy or lower alkyl; R is lower alkyl) with chlorine gas. The compound of formula II is e.g. S-2-chlorophenyl dimethylthiocarbamate, S-2-phenylphenyl dimethylthiocarbamate etc. The amount of the chlorine gas is preferably about 5mol per 1mol of the compound of formula II. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio |
