abstract PURPOSE: To obtain high-quality feather meal efficiently, by putting feathers in a closed cooker, heating it, hydrolyzing it, adding an animal or vegetable oil at normal temperature to the cooker, reducing the pressure, dehydrating and drying them simultaneously. n CONSTITUTION: Feathers are fed to a closed cooker, steam is sent by pressure to the jacket part of the cooker, the feathers are steamed and boiled, water in the feathers are evaporated as steam, and the feathers are hydrolyzed by the steam. In this state, an animal or vegetable oil at normal temperature is fed to the cooker, dispersed in a misty state, the high-temperature steam in the cooker is cooled, condensed, liquefied, and the pressure in the cooler is reduced. The oil heated by heat exchange with the steam is simultaneously penetrated into the feather tissue, and replaced with remaining water in the feather tissue, water release action occurs so that the feathers are dried, to give the desired feather meal. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
