titleOfInvention | Production of cyclopentanone |
abstract | PURPOSE: To produce the titled compound useful as a raw material of monomers of synthetic polymers such as sebacic acid for the production of 6,10-nylon, economically, by efficiently oxidizing cyclopentene with a peroxide in liquid phase in the presence of a noble metal catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: Cyclopentanone is produced by the oxidation of cyclopentene with a peroxide such as hydrogen peroxide, tert-butyl hydroperoxide, etc. in liquid phase, i.e. in an organic solvent such as alcohol, ether, ketone, ester, etc., in the presence of a noble metal catalyst such as palladium, rhodium, platinum, iridium, etc. Cyclopentene used as a raw material can be produced economically in high yield by the partial hydrogenation of cycloepentadiene existing abundantly in the 5C fraction of the naphtha cracking mixture. The peroxides exemplified above are advantageous from practical point of view because the former compound forms water as by-product and the latter compound is soluble completely in an organic reagent and is stable. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio |
