titleOfInvention Preparation of n-alkyldecahydroisoquinoline
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for drugs, agricultural chemicals, etc. by one stage easily in high yield, by subjecting decahydroisoquinoline to N-alkylation by the use of a specific alkylating agent and an alkali metal hydroxide. n CONSTITUTION: Decahydroisoquinoline is subjected to N-alkylation in the presence of an alkylating agent such as an alkyl halide, e.g., methyl iodide, etc. or an alkyl ester, e.g., dimethyl sulfate, etc. and an alkali metal hydroxide such as an aqueous solution of NaOH or an alcoholate such as sodium methyate, etc. at normal temperature, preferably at -10°CWnormal temperature, to give the desired compound. When an amount of the alkylating agent used is 1.0W1.5mol based on 1mol decahydroisoquinoline, an amount of formed N-monoalkyldecahydroisoquinoline is large, and when the amount is ≥1.5mol, an amount of formed N,N-dialkyldecahydroisoquinolinium salt is large. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
