titleOfInvention Modification of crystalline polypropylene
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain modified PP excellent in heat stability and good in the color of a molding, by mixing crystalline PP with a specified radical scavenger and a specified peroxide-decomposing agent and heating the mixture in the presence of an organic peroxide. n CONSTITUTION: Crystalline PP is mixed with (A) a hindered phenol radical scavenger (e.g., 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol) and (B) a phosphite peroxide-decomposing agent [e.g., cyclic neopentanetetraylbis(octadecyl phosphate)] so that the total amount of agents A and B is 0.03W0.3pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. PP and the molar ratio of the hindered phenol groups of agent A to the phosphite groups of agent B is 50/50W30/70, and the mixture is heated in the presence of an organic peroxide, e.g., 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-(tert-butyl-peroxy)hexane, to modity the PP. It is possible to obtain easily modified PP having excellent heat stability and providing a molding of an excellent color. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
