titleOfInvention Production of imidazole based compound
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain N-cyano-N'-methyl-N"-{2[(4-methyl-5-imidazolyl)methylthio] ethyl}guanidine from bis(4-methyl-5-mercaptomethylimidazole) and a guanidine derivative. n CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I is reacted with a compound of formula II[R is halogen, mesyl (CH 3 -SO 2 -) or tosyl (group of formula III)] in an organic solvent in the presence of a phosphine to give the aimed compound of formula IV. An alcohol, acetonitrile, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), dimethylformamide (DMF), dioxane, etc. may be used as the organic solvent, and tributylphosphine or triphenylphosphine, etc. may be used as the phosphine. The reaction is carried out within room temperature W the refluxing temperature range for 30minW8hr. The use of the isopropyl alcohol as the solvent permits the direct production of cimetidine A crystals. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
