PURPOSE: To produce p-xylene, by methylating toluene in the presence of hydrogen by using a catalyst containing P and/or its oxide, Mg and/or oxide, and crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite modified with Pt. n CONSTITUTION: p-Xylene is produced by methylating toluene with a methylation agent (e.g. methanol, dimethyl ether, etc.) in vapor phase, in the presence of hydrogen at 300W700°C. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst containing P and/or its oxide, Mg and/or its oxide and crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite modified with Pt (the contents of P, Mg and Pt are 0.01W30wt%, 1W30wt% and 0.01W5wt%, respectively). The molar ratios of H 2 /toluene and the methylation agent/toluene are 0.1W10 and 0.01W2, respectively. n EFFECT: The conversion of toluene and the content of p-xylene are high. The catalytic activity lasts a long time. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio |
