NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (X is H, halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; Y is H or halogen; Z is H, lower alkyl or acyl; R is H or lower alkyl). n EXAMPLE: 3-Bromo-3-(4-phenoxybenzoyl)propionic acid. n USE: A drug effective to lower the blood lipid level of mammals, and having low toxicity. n PREPARATION: The compound of formula I (R is H or lower alkyl; Z is lower alkyl or acyl) is produced by (1) carrying out the Friedel-Crafts reaction of the compound of formula II with succinic anhydride to obtain the carboxylic acid compound of formula III, (2) brominating the compound with bromine in an organic solvent such as ether, THF, etc., (3) reacting the resultant compound of formula IV with the compound of formula Z'SM (Z' is same as Z except for H; M is alkali metal) in an organic solvent such as methanol, ethanol, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio |
