abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate of synthesizing capsaicine, a hot component of Capsicum annum L. by one process by extremely simple operation in high yield, by reacting vanillin with ammonium formate, treating the reaction product with conc. sulfuric acid. n CONSTITUTION: 1mol vanillin shown by the formula I is reacted with ≥2mol ammonium formate at 150W200°C for 1W5hr, NH 3 is eliminated, the reaction product is treated with conc. hydrochloric acid for 30minW2hr under reflux, ethanol, etc. is added to the prepared reaction mixture to give vanillylamine hydrochloride shown by the formula II. This filtered vinillin hydrochloride shown by the formula II is optionally recrystallized with a solvent such as ethanol, etc. to give vanillylamine hydrochloride shown by the formula II useful as an intermediate for synthesizing capsaicine[=N-4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzyl)-8-methylnon- trans-6-enamide] shown by the formula III. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio |
