titleOfInvention Polyester composition and container for carbonated beverage
abstract PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. suitable for use in the production of containers for carbonated beverage, by blending a metal alkylsulfonate and a styrene oligomer with a polyester mainly composed of ethylene terephthalate units and having a reduced acetaldehyde content. CONSTITUTION:A polyester mainly composed of an ethylene terephthalate repeating unit is subjected to a solid phase polymn. treatment at 195-230 deg.C for 5hr or longer to produce a polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.6 or above and an acetaldehyde content of 20ppm or below as measured by a water extraction method at 160 deg.C for 2hr. 0.01-1wt% metal alkylsulfonate and 0.01- 2wt% styrene oligomer having an average MW of 400-3,000 are blended with said polyester to obtain the desired polyester compsn. A container for carbonated bererage, prepd. from said compsn. does not cause abnormal sparking nor blow off at the time of uncorking.
