abstract | NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula (R is H, or lower alkyl; Ar is substituted or unsubstituted aromatic ring). n EXAMPLE: 2-Isopropyl-4-methoxydiphenylamine. n USE: Useful as an intermediate for synthesizing a fluoran compound useful as a dyestuff precursor for various kinds of recording materials such as pressure- sensitive paper, heat-sensitive paper, heat-sensitive paper by electricity, etc. n PREPARATION: A 2-isopropyl-4-alkoxyacylanilide is reacted with an aryl holide in the presence of a catalyst such as copper powder, copper oxide, etc. at 150W 260°C, the reaction product is deacylated with an alkali to give a compound shown by the formula.
