PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an antiallergic from inexpensive raw materials by one stage in high yield, by reacting 3,4-dimethoxycinnamic acid with isatonic acid anhydride in the presence of a tertiary amine. n CONSTITUTION: 3,4-Dimethoxycinnamic acid shown by the formula I is reacted with isatonic acid anhydride shown by the formula II in the presence of a tertiary amine (e.g., triethylaminem pyridine, etc.) in a solvent such as dimethylformamide, etc. at 100W180°C to give the desired substance, N-(3,4-dimethoxycinnamoyl)anthranilic acid shown by the formula III.
