titleOfInvention Rotation-moldable flame-retarding polyethylene composition
abstract PURPOSE: To make it possible to mold a moding of good mechanical properties and appearance and excellent flame retardancy by rotation molding, by mixing a specified polyethylene with a flame retardant of hight heat stability and a crosslinking agent. n CONSTITUTION: A polyethylene having a melt index value ≥10, used as a base, is mixed with a flame retardant of high heat stability and a crosslinking agent and optionally other additives. The flame retardant used is one having a high heat decomposition temperature and high heat stability, or preferably one having a 5% weight loss temperature ≥200°C when determined with a thermogravimetric device. Examples of the flame retardants include decabromodiphenyl ether and others. Because an inorganic flame retardant has an action of lowering the flow of the composition, its amount is preferably 20wt% or below, based on the total composition. A desirable crosslinking agent is one which has a half-life of 30min at a temperature at least 20°C above the m.p. of the base polyethylene. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
