abstract PURPOSE:To contrive to reduce deterioration on reproduction, to enhance light resistance and to maintain characteristics during preservation in a light room, by providing on a base a recording layer comprising a cyanine dye with or without a resin and further comprising a specified compound. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer comprising a cyanine dye with or without a resin and further comprising a compound of the formula is provided on the base. Among cyanine dyes, preferred is one represented by the formula: phi-L=psi(X<->)m. In the formula, M is Pt, Ni or Pd, and each of X1-X4 is O or S. In the abovementioned formula, each of phi and psi is a indole ring, a thiazole ring or the like which may be condensed with an aromatic ring, e.g., a benzene ring or a naphthalene ring, may be different, but are generally the same, and may be substituted by various groups. Accordingly, deterioration on reproduction by reading light is made to be extremely small. In addition, light resistance is enhanced, deterioration of characteristics during preservation in a light room can be reduced, and deterioration of characteristics on erasing and rewriting can be reduced.
