titleOfInvention Desalination of crude oil
abstract PURPOSE: To effectively perform titled desalination in view of resource conservation needs while controlling pollution by adding to crude oil, emulsion breaker and the aqueous solution prepared by incorporating sulfuric acid in the distilled condensed water from a crude oil distillation unit followed by desalination in an electric desalination tank. n CONSTITUTION: A distilled condensed water from a crude oil distillation unit 3 is charged with, if required, supplementary water 9 followed by adding sulfuric acid 15 to the pit 6 by a pump 14 to adjust the pH of the effluent 10 from the electric desalination tank to 6.5W7.5. The resulting aqueous solution and an emulsion breaker are then admixed with the crude oil in said tank 1 using a pump 11 through a flow controller 13 and flow control valve 12 followed by carrying out a desalination. Said emulsion breaker is, e.g., sulfuric acid-modified castor oil, dioctyl sulfosuccinate. n EFFECT: Applicable to any type of crude oil; in particular, suitable for Mideast- based one known as resistant to desalination such as Arabian heavy oil. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
