titleOfInvention Method for determination of activity of dried green mussel powder
abstract PURPOSE: To determine the activity of dried powder of green mussel extremely easily and surely, by administering the powder to a caudated animal, measuring the rate of bleeding, calculating the suppressing ratio of bleeding, and using the ratio as the titer. n CONSTITUTION: A definite amount of dried green mussel powder is suspended in physiological saline water, and administered to a caudated animal such as mouse e.g. by intravenous injection. After a definite time, the end of the tail is cut, the blood is collected for a definite time (e.g. 1min), and the amount of the blood is measured as the absorbance by an absorption photometer. As a control, similar procedure is repeated using physiological saline water in place of the suspension of dried green mussel powder. The decrease of the bleeding from the tail is calculated from the absorbance data of the above experiments, and is used as the activity of the dried green mussel powder. The green mussel is a bivalve living off the coast of New Zealand, and has pharmacological effect to arthralgia, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
