abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a polarizing plate protected with a polyester film causing no irregularity in color by adhering a polyester film stretched in one direction parallel to the surface of the film so as to satisfy prescribed conditions to at least one side of a polarizing film. CONSTITUTION:A polyvinyl film having adsorbed iodine is stretched about four times in the longitudinal direction to form a polarizing film 2, and protective films 1, 3 are formed by adhering stretched polyester films to the surfaces of the film 2 so that the stretching direction meets at right angles to the axis of polarization of the film 2. When the films 1, 3 satisfy equations [(1/Ny<2>-1/Nx<2>)/(1/ Ny<2>-1/Nz<2>)]<1/2>>0.8 and 2.3[1.642/(1/Ny<2>+0.642/Nz<2>)<1/2>-Nx]d>4, the films cause no irregularity in color. In the equations, Ny is the refractive index in the stretching direction, Nx is the refractive index in a direction perpendicular to the stretching direction, Nz is the refractive index in the thickness direction, and (d) is the thickness.
