titleOfInvention Novel steroid substance
abstract NEW MATERIAL:Compounds of formula I (R 1 is O, OH; when R 1 is O, R 2 is H, OH; when R 1 is OH, R 2 is also OH), formula II and formula III. n USE: A food additive for giving foods bitter taste such as a substituent of hops for beer. n PREPARATION: Fruits bodies of Ganoderma lucidum are dried and crushed, the product is continuously extracted with a lower aliphatic alcohol such as ethanol and the extract is concentrated. The concentrate is combined with chloroform, the chloroform phase is concentrated to 1/10 of the original volume and extracted with a saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate. The aqueous phase is adjusted in pH to 3W4, cooled down with ice to form a precipitate. The precipitate is extracted with chloroform, dried over sodium sulfate, concentrated to give a crude product. The product is subjected to silica gel chromatography and thin-layer chromatography to effect fractionation and each fraction is purified again with silica gel chromatography. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
