PURPOSE: To improve the yield of the titled substance useful as a modifier for polyester, etc., easily, in the reaction of trimethylolpropane with an alkali metal hydroxide and allyl chloride, by adjusting the total amount of water added to the reaction system within a specific range. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound can be produced by reacting trimethylolpropane with an alkali metal hydroxide and allyl chloride. The reaction is carried out by adding an aqueous solution of allyl chloride and the alkali metal hydroxide dropwise to a mixture consisting of trimethylopropane, the alkali metal hydroxide, water and a quaternary ammonium salt at molar ratios of 1:(0W 1):(0W9):(0.005W0.035), and keeping the total amountof water added to the reaction system to 1W10mol per 1mol of trimethylolpropane, at 60W120°C, preferably 70W110°C.
