titleOfInvention | Production of polymer having small optical strain |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer having no optical strain and little variation in optical characteristics, and suitable for preparing optical parts, by moving a slender columnar vessel containing a monomer or a partial polymer thereof gradually from the vapor phase at a given temperature difference to the liquid phase, and carrying out block polymerization. n CONSTITUTION: A slender columnar container containing a monomer, e.g. methyl methacrylate or styrene, or a partial polymer thereof and a polymerization initiator, e.g. azobisisobutyronitrile or tert-butyl peroxide, injected thereinto is subjected to block polymerization while being gradually moved from the vapor phase relatively to the liquid phase in the major axis direction, and the temperature difference between the temperature (TB) of the liquid phase and the temperature (TA) of the vapor phase at 10cm distance from the interface between the vapor and the liquid as follows; TB-TA≥30°C. The relative moving speed of the columnar container is set at 0.01W5cm/min. n EFFECT: Heat produced with the progress of the polymerization is efficiently removed, and polymer strain caused by the volume shrinkage is suppressed to eliminate the optical strain. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio |
