PURPOSE: A hypoglycemic agent containing a polysaccharide having blood sugar reducing action of a plant belonging to the family Liliaceae as an active constituent. n CONSTITUTION: A hypoglycemic agent obtained by incorporating a water-soluble component [assuming light yellowish red color with a mixed solution of 2% aqueous solution of phenol with concentrated sulfuric acid and positive to the silver mirror reaction and Fehling's solution (indicating that the component is a polysaccharide); having ≥24Å size in aqueous solution; hypoglycemic] of aloe belonging to the family Liliaceae, e.g. Aloe arborescens Mill., Aloe ferox. Mill. or Aloe barberae Dyer, as an active constituent. The dose thereof is 10W300mg/ day, preferably 30W100mg/day administered in divided 2W3 portions a day.
