abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I [R 1 and R' are 1W9C straight-chain alkyl; two cyclohexane rings are in trans(equatorial-equatorial) configuration, respectively]. n EXAMPLE: A compound shown by the formula II. n USE: A nematic liquid crystal substance useful as an electro-optical display material, having high anisotropy of refractive index and high phase transition temperature of nematic phase-isotropic liquid phase, and weak negative dielectric anisotropy. n PREPARATION: A compound shown by the formula III is reacted with a compound shown by the formula IV to give a compound shown by the formula V.
