titleOfInvention Apparatus for judging metal by ultrasonic wave
abstract PURPOSE:To detect a difference of composition of metallic piece with high precision by measuring simultaneously an actual thickness and thickness data by ultrasonic wave by using a digital thickness meter together with an ultrasonic thickness meter. CONSTITUTION:An arithmetic constant of the ultrasonic thickness meter 5 is set to a sound wave propagation velocity of a prescribed reference metal to be compared with the metallic piece 2 to be judged. Water is fed in a water vessel 8 to the extent in which an under surface of the piece 2 is steeped, a rotating ring 12 at a top end of a spinle 11 of the digital thickness meter 7 is puched against a transducer 1 to adjust zero point of the meter 7. Next, the piece 2 is mounted on the transducer 1 of the vessel 8, and the ring 12 of the meter 7 is allowed to contact with an upper surface of the piece 2. The thickness TG by the meter 7 and the thickness TS by the meter 5 are read into computer through digital counters 6a, 6b, and a thickness difference t=TG-TS is calculated. in this way, the result that the piece 2 is the prescribed metal is displayed, in case (t) is within a prescribed numerical value.
