titleOfInvention Method for measuring concentration of nitric acid
abstract PURPOSE:To measure continuously the concn. of nitric acid with good accuracy by using an Fe-base alloy contg. Cr which causes self-passivation in a nitric acid soln. having the concn. of the lower limit value in a measuring concn. range as a measuring electrode and measuring the corrosion potential of the measuring electrode. CONSTITUTION:An Fe-base alloy contg. Cr which causes self-passivation in a nitric acid soln. having the concn. of the lower limit value in a measuring concn. range is used as a measuring electrode. An Fe-Cr steel is exemplified as the Fe-base alloy contg. Cr. There is no limitation for the content. of Cr in the alloy as far as the alloy causes self- passivation in the nitric acid soln. of the concn. below the lower limit value in the measuring concn. range, A calomel electrode, silver silver chloride electrode, mercury sulfate electrode or the like which is used for ordinary measurement of corrosion potential is used as a reference electrode. The measurement of the concn. of nitric acid is executed by immersing the measuring electrode and the reference electrode in the nitric acid soln. to be measured, connecting both electrodes to a voltage measuring device and measuring the corrosion potential. The resulting potential value is thereafter compared with the corrosion potential measured in the nitric acid having a known concn. by which the concn. of the nitric acid in the soln. to be measured is determind.
