abstract PURPOSE: An aromatic copolyester which can be melt-molded and give a fiber or the like of excellent strength, etc., obtained by polycondensing methylhydroquinone diester with a dicarboxylic acid component based on 4,4'-diphenyl-dicarboxylic acid. n CONSTITUTION: The purpose aromatic copolyester is prepared by polycondensing, by elimination of a monocarboxylic acid, methyl- or chloro-hydroquinone diester with a dicarboxylic acid component based on 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylic acid. This copolyester contains structural unit A comprising a unit of formula I (wherein X is methyl or chlorine) and a unit of formula II, structural unit B comprising a unit of formula I and a unit of formula III (wherein Y is Cl or Br), and structural unit C comprising a unit of formula I and a unit of formula IV. Structural unit A amounts to 50W90mol% of the total, structural units B or B+C amount to 50W10mol% of the total, and the units of formula I are equimolar in amount to the total of the units of formulas II, III, and IV. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
