abstract | NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R<1> is phenyl or thienyl; R<2> is lower alkyl, phenyl-substituted lower alkyl, lower alkanoyl or benzoyl; X is halogen; m is 1 or 2; n is 0 or 1) or its salt. EXAMPLE:2-(4-Chlorophenyl)-4-phenyl-5-(methylthiomethyl)imidazole. USE:An anti-inflammatory, analgesic and/or antipyretic. It has low toxicity, and is useful for the remedy or mitigation of the inflammation of the skeletal muscle joints such as knee joint, humeral joint, etc., and the inflammation of other organs such as rheumatism, gout, etc. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I wherein n=0 can be prepared e.g. by reacting the compound of formula II (Y is reactive group) with the compound of formula R<2>SZ (Z is H or alkali metal) in a solvent if necessary in the presence of a base. Another compound of formula I wherein n=1 can be produced by oxidizing the above product with an oxidizing agent in a solvent. |
