titleOfInvention Preparation of higher alcohol
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a higher alcohol useful as a healthy food, etc. in high yield in high purity easily, by subjecting wax consisting essentially of higher fatty acids and higher alcohols to ester exchange with a lower alcohol, treating the reaction product with a solvent. n CONSTITUTION: Wax such as sunflower wax, rice bran wax, montan wax, wheat germ wax, etc. consisting essentially of higher fatty acids and higher alcohols is subjected to ester exchange with a lower alcohol such as methanol, ethanol, propanol, or butanol by a conventional procedure. Then, the prepared reaction solution is cooled, filtered, the cake is washed with water until a catalyst is removed, treated with a solvent by a method such as repeated recrystallization with the lower alcohol, to give a higher alcohol such as octacosanol, etc. having raised demand as a healthy food, etc. in high purity advantageously. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
