PURPOSE:To provide an optical recording medium improved in deterioration on reproduction, wherein a recording layer comprising a cyanine dye, a resin and a specified compound is provided on a base. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic resin (e.g., PVA) in a weight ratio of 1:0.1-100, a cyanine dye of formula I , wherein each of phi and psi is an indole ring, thiazole ring, oxazole ring, selenazole ring, imidazole ring or pyridine ring with which an aromatic ring may be condensed, L is a connecting group for forming a mono-, di-, tri- or tetracarbocyanine dye, X<-> is an anion and m is 0-1, and a compound of formula II, wherein M is a transition metal atom, Q is formula IIIor formula IV, and Cat is a cation, in an amount of 0.01-12mol per 1mol of the dye, are dissolved or dispersed in an organic solvent (e.g., methyl ethyl ketone) to obtain a coating liquid. The coating liquid is applied to the base, and is dried to provide a recording layer having a thickness of 0.03-10mum. |
