titleOfInvention Novel polyester-imide and its production
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester-imide of excellent heat resistance easily and cheaply, by polycondensing a specified imide ring-containing dicarboxylic acid with a dihydric phenol in the presence of a solvent and an arylsulfonyl chloride. n CONSTITUTION: An imide ring-containing dicarboxylic acid of formula I (wherein Ar is formula II, III, or a like group), [e.g., 4-carboxy-N-(m-carboxyphenyl) phthalimide], is reacted with a dihydric phenol of formula IV (wherein Ar' is formula II or III, or a like group), [e.g., 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane], in the presence of a solvent (e.g., pyridine) and an arylsulfonyl chloride of formula V (wherein R is a 6W9C aryl). In this way, the purpose polyester-imide having repeating units of formula VI, terminated with H or OH and having a high reduced viscosity, can be obtained. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
