abstract PURPOSE: To provide superior charging characteristic, repeating characteristic, and printing resistance to a photosensitive layer preventing generation of abnormal protrusions on its surface and defect of characteristics such as tonor filming, etc. by incorporating a binder consisting essentially of either one of the polycarbonates expressed by the formula I or II in the photosensitive layer. n CONSTITUTION: Polycarbonate I or II expressed by the formulas is used for the binder of a photosensitive layer. Groups R 1 and R 2 , one or both thereof being bulky group(s), are bonded to a central C atom of the bisphenol A moiety, or a ring is formed together with said central C atom including Z. The photosensitive body forms a carrier generating layer 2 contg. CGM such as polycyclic quinone as an essential component on a conductive substrate 1, and a carrier transporting layer 3 contg. CTM such as a carbazole deriv. or a hydrazone compd. as an essential component is built up on the carrier generating layer 2.
