abstract PURPOSE: To obtain industrially and advantageously the titled compound useful as a medicine, by reducing a specific nitro compound which is an epimeric mixture into an amino compound and epimerizing the resultant amino compound in the presence of an alkali at a specific temperature. n CONSTITUTION: A 1RS-3'RS epimer of an amino compound expressed by formula II(R 3 WR 6 are the same as R 3 'WR 6 ' except nitro) is obtained from a mixture of the 1RS-3'RS epimer with a 1RS-3'RS epimer of a nitro compound expressed by formula I (R 1 and R 2 are H or lower alkoxyl, at least one of R 3 'WR 6 ' is nitro, and the rest is H or lower alkoxyl; R 7 is lower alkyl). In the process, the compound expressed by formula I is previously reduced to give the compound expressed by formula II, which is epimerized in the presence of an alkali at 20W 100°C to afford the aimed aminated phthalide-isoquinoline expressed by formula II. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
