PURPOSE: To produce the titled compound useful as a raw material of heterocyclic compound, in high efficiency, by reacting a halomethylated aromatic compound with a terminal acetylene compound and carbon monoxide using a Pd catalyst in the presence of a tert-amine having high steric bulkiness. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula IV is produced by reacting (A) the compound of formula I (A is aromatic group; R 4 is inert substituent group; X is halogen), e.g. benzyl chloride, p-methylbenzyl chloride, etc. with (B) the compound of formula II (R 5 is alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, heterocyclic group, etc.), e.g. methylacetylene, etc. and (C) carbon monoxide using a Pd catalyst in the presence of a tert-amine of formula III (R 1 WR 3 are alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl, except for the case that two or more of R 1 WR 3 are primary alkyl) as a hydrogen halide scavenger.
