PURPOSE:The titled composition which can retain the mechanical strength of a styrene resin, has excellent flame retardancy and heat stability, and is freed from a problem of toxicity, prepared by mixing a styrene resin with a specified flame retardant, an organotin compound and a metal salt of a higher fatty acid. CONSTITUTION:A styrene resin composition prepared by mixing 100pts.wt. (A) styrene resin with 0.5-5.0pts.wt. (B) hexabromocyclododecane, 0.1-0.6pts.wt. (C) organotin compound (e.g., di-n-octyltin maleate polymer) and 0.05-0.60pts.wt. (D) metal salt of a higher fatty acid (e.g., calcium stearate). Conventionally, a resin composition of this kind contains component C and an organophosphorus compound so as to withstand a molding temperature (usually, 180-220 deg.C), but has a problem of toxicity due to thepresence of an organophosphorus compound. By replacing this compound with component D, a composition of excellent heat resistance and free of a toxicity problem can be obtained. |
