titleOfInvention Production of tea catechin compound
abstract PURPOSE: To produce the titled compound useful as an antioxidant, etc., economically, by washing a solution containing the extracted component of tea leaves, transferring the component to an organic solvent, distilling out the solvent to obtain a concentrated liquid of the extracted component, and subjecting the liquid to the high-speed liquid chromatography using a developing solvent. n CONSTITUTION: Tea leaves are extracted with a solvent selected from hot water, 40W75% aqueous solution of methanol, 40W75% aqueous solution of ethanol and 30W80% aqueous solution of acetone, and the obtained solution containing the extracted component is washed with chloroform. The extracted component is transferred to an organic solvent, and the solvent is distilled out to obtain concentrated liquid of the extracted component. The objective (-)-epi- or (-)-epigallocatechin and (-)-epi- or (-)-epigallocatechin gallate of formula (R 1 is H or OH; R 2 is H or group of formula II) can be obtained by subjecting the concentrated liquid to the high-speed liquid chromatography with a reverse-phase partition column using a mixture of acetone, THF and water (0W25:0W35:65W 85vol%) as the developing solvent. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
