abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled composite membrane containing uniformly dispersed fine metal particles and being excellent in gas separability and suitable in the separation of hydrogen gas, by allowing an ion exchange membrane to adsorb metal ions or complex ions and reducing these ions by contact with hydrogen gas. n CONSTITUTION: An ion exchange membrane such as fluorocarbon ion exchange membrane formed by bonding ion exchangeable groups such as sulfonic acid groups to a polymer having polytetrafluoroethylene is immersed in a solution containing ions or complex ions of a dispersed metal (e.g., palladium) to allow the ion exchange membrane to adsorb the metal (complex) ions by ion exchange. This ion exchange membrane is brought into contact with hydrogen gas to reduce the metal (complex) ions into fine metal particles. In this way, the purpose ion exchange membrane/metal composite membrane is obtained. It can be suitably used as, for example, a separation membrane for separating and recovering hydrogen gas from high-temperature waste gases discharged from a variety of plants. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
