PURPOSE: To produce an aromatic polyester excellent in mechanical and chemical properties, by reacting a dicarboxylic acid based on 6,6'-(ethylenedioxy)di- 2-naphthoic acid with a specified diol. n CONSTITUTION: An aromatic polyester having an intrinsic viscosity ≥0.4 is obtained by reacting 6,6'-(ethylenedioxy)di-2-naphthoic acid of formula III or its esterifiable derivative, below 50mol% of which may be replaced with a dicarboxylic acid of formula I or II (wherein R 1 is an aliphatic, aromatic, or alicyclic group, and R 2 is an aliphatic or aromatic group) with a diol comprising a 2W 10C glycol the main chain of which has an even number of carbon atoms (e.g., ethylene glycol) and 50mol% or below diol of formula IV (wherein R 3 is an aliphatic, aromatic or alicyclic group in which the main chain has an odd number of carbon atoms) at a temperature of from the m.p. of the polymer to 350°C in the presence of a catalyst. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio |
