abstract PURPOSE: To produce the titled substance economically, in high purity, by introducing hydrogen and a lower aliphatic alcohol to an aliphatic primary amine (or secondary amine) in the presence of hydrogenation-dehydrogenation catalyst under pressure, and reacting the components with each other while removing the produced water from the system together with the carrier gas. n CONSTITUTION: The titled compound can be produced by introducing a 1W3C aliphatic alcohol and hydrogen to an aliphatic primary amine and/or secondary amine under pressure in the presence of a hydrogenation-dehydrogenation catalyst (preferably Raney copper, copper-chromite, or copper-chromite catalyst modified with barium and/or manganese), and reacting the components with each other while removing the produced water from the system together with the carrier gas. The feeding rates of the primary amine and the secondary amine are ≥4 times mole and ≥2 times mol based on the amine used as the raw material, respectively, and the feeding rate of the alcohol is preferably 1W10mol/hour per 1mol of the amine. The reaction pressure is 10W200kg/cm 2 , wherein the hydrogen partial pressure is 5W150kg/cm 2 . n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
