abstract PURPOSE: To produce the titled compound useful for the production of a polymer having excellent transparency, etc., in high selectivity, by using propylene containing a specific amount of O 2 as a raw material, and dimerizing the propylene in the presence of an optionally H 2 -treated catalyst supported on a specific carrier. n CONSTITUTION: Propylene containing 2W500ppm of O 2 is dimerized at 100W250°C and 20W200kg/cm 2 pressure in the presence of a catalyst obtained by supporting one or more elements or compounds selected from Na, K, sodium amide and potassium amide on a carrier composed mainly of the compound of formula K 2 O.XAl 2 O 3 (0.5≤X≤11), and if necessary, treating the supported component with H 2 . The compound produced by this process has excellent properties as a monomer for the production of a polymer having high transparency and excellent heat-resistance, mechanical and electrical properties, chemical resistance, etc., or a comonomer for improving the physical properties such as transparency, environmental stress-cracking resistance, etc. of a polyolefin product. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
