abstract PURPOSE:To provide an excellent photochromic characteristic and to improve resistance to wear, heat and impact by coating a specific coating compsn. on a high refractive index lens for which a copolymer obtainable from two kinds of specific monomers is used and curing said compsn. CONSTITUTION:The coating compsn. consisting essentially of silver halide (except silver fluoride), colloidal silica having 1-100mum particle size and the compd. expressed by the formula V [R<4> is vinyl, amino, imino, epoxy, (meth) acryloxy, phenyl or SH group, R<5> is H, (halogenated) hydrocarbon group of 1- 6C, R<6> is hydrocarbon group, alkoxy alkyl group of 1-5C or acyl group of 1- 4C, (a), (b) are 0, 1 or 2 and a+b<=2] is coated on a high refractive index lens for which the copolymer of the monomer expressed by the formula I and any of the monomers expressed by the formulas II, III and IV is used then the compsn. is cured. Such lens is easily polymerizable and has good adhesion to the coating film. The high refractive index photochromic lens having the coating film highly resistant to wear, heat and chemicals on the lens surface is thus obtd.
