titleOfInvention Flame-retardant polyester composition
abstract PURPOSE: A high-performance polyethylene terephthalate polyester composition having excellent flame retardancy, synthesized by direct esterification process, with specified metal compounds incorporated therein. n CONSTITUTION: Terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol are esterified. After the completion of the esterification reaction, one or more metal compounds selected from among Mg and Mn compounds (e.g. an acetate and an oxalate) in an amount of 35×10 -4 W100×10 -4 gram atom of the metal atom based on 1mol of the acid component of the polyester, and a phosphorus compound (e.g. triethyl phosphate) in an amount of 0W0.15 gram atom of phosphorus atom based on 1 gram atom of the metal atom are incorporated therein without depositing as internal particles, followed by conventional polycondensation to give the polyethylene terephthalate polyester composition. Conventionally, phosphorus compounds are incorporated as flame retardants, having difficulty in obtaining steadily a flame-retardant polyester of uniform quality. The above-mentioned method can give steadily a high-performance polyester compound having excellent flame retardancy. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1985,JPO&Japio
