abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a formal sponge improved in water retention, water return and skin touch, by formalizing a saponificate of a copolymer of an oxyalkylene group-containing unsaturated monomer with vinyl acetate in the presence of a strong acid. CONSTITUTION:A saponificate of a copolymer of an oxyalkylene group-containing unsaturated monomer with vinyl acetate, or a mixture thereof with a polyvinyl alcohol is formalized in the presence of a strong acid. Examples of the oxyalkylene group-containing unsaturated monomers include (meth)acrylate [e.g., polyoxyethylene (meth)acrylate], (meth)acrylamides [e.g., polyoxyethylene(meth) acrylamide], (meth)allyl alcohols [e.g., polyoxyethylene (meth)allyl ether], and vinyl ethers (e.g., polyoxyethylene vinyl ether).
