abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a herbicide effective to a wide variety of weeds such as broad-leaved weeds, gramineous weeds, etc., and especially effective against annual weeds by foliar treatment, by using an α-amino acid derivative or its functional salt as an active component. n CONSTITUTION: The objective herbicide contains the α-amino acid derivative of formula I [R 1 and R 2 are same or different H, hydroxycarbonyl, ≤10C hydrocarbon group, acyl group of formula II (R 6 is H or ≤10C hydrocarbon group), etc.; R 3 is hydroxyl of formula OR 8 (R 8 is H or ≤10C hydrocarbon group), etc.; R 4 and R 5 are same or different H, hydroxycarbonyl, etc.] or its functional salt, as an active component. The herbicide is applied in the form of granules, wettable powder, etc., and the content of the active component in the herbicide is preferably about 0.1W95wt%.
