titleOfInvention | Production of polybutylene terephthalate of low terminal-carboxyl group content |
abstract | PURPOSE: To produce the titled polybutylene terephthalate having excellent wet- heat stability, by adding a specified catalyst to a mixture of dimethyl terephthalate or terephthalic acid and 1,4-butanediol and starting pressure reduction to effect a polycondensation reaction. n CONSTITUTION: To a mixture of dimethyl terephthalate or terephthalic acid and 1,4-butanediol are added 0.001W0.5wt%, based on the produced polybutylene terephthalate, stannous oxalate and a titanium compound of the formula: Ti(OR) 4 (wherein R is alkyl or aryl) and, if necessary 50W2,000ppm of an alkali metal hypophosphite. The resulting mixture is esterified or transesterfied at 120W250°C for 2W4hr and then polycondensed at 200W300°C for 2W4hr in a vacuum of below 3mmHg. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
