titleOfInvention Preparation of alkanolamide having low cloud point
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain easily the titled compound, having a low cloud point, and useful as detergents and cosmetics, by reacting a higher fatty acid or an ester thereof with diethanolamine in the presence of a triethanolamine in a specific amount based on the total amount of the amine components. n CONSTITUTION: A higher fatty acid or an ester thereof, e.g. an 8W22C fatty acid such as lauric acid, is reacted with diethanolamine in the presence of 2W20wt%, preferably 4W10wt%, based on the total amount of the amine components to give the aimed alkanolamide having a low cloud point. A higher fatty acid alkanolamide has generally a high melting point and is wholly solidified in a period of low temperatures or partially crystallized to damage the appearance due to the clouding caused by the high cloud point. The alkanolamide having 4W10°C lower cloud point than the conventional one without using an additive by the above-mentioned method. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
