titleOfInvention | Preparation of aromatic carboxylic acid ester |
abstract | PURPOSE: In esterifying an aromatic carboxylic acid ester with methanol, to obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for fibers, films, resins, etc. under mild conditions in high yield, by carrying out the reaction in a liquid phase using a solid catalyst containing a titanium sulfate. n CONSTITUTION: In esterifying an aromatic carboxylic acid, especially paratoluic acid, monomethyl terephthalate and/or terephthalic acid with methanol, the reaction is carried out in a liquid phase in the presence of a solid catalyst containing a titanium sulfate selected from titanium sulfate, oxidized titanium sulfate, and substances obtained by treating them at 50W750°C, especially a catalyst obtained by supporting the sulfate on a porous carrier, to give an aromatic carboxylic acid ester corresponding to the raw material. By this process, the reaction is advanced sufficiently at relatively low temperature of 80W180°C, loss of methanol is small, the catalyst is easily separated from the reaction solution, usable repeatedly, so this process is industrially advantageous. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
