titleOfInvention | Polymer of sulfonated dicyclopentadiene |
abstract | PURPOSE: To produce the titled polymer excellent in surface activity and useful as an emulsifier, dispersant, wetting agent, detergent, or smoothing agent, by polymerizing sulfonated dicyclopentadiene. n CONSTITUTION: Sulfonated dicyclopentadiene of the formula, wherein M is H, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, ammonium, or an amine, and n is 1 or 2, is polymerized or copolymerized with a monomer copolymerizable therewith in the presence of an acidic compound catalyst (e.g., sulfuric or phosphoric acid). The MW of the produced (co)polymer can be varied suitably by varying reaction conditions, especially, the kind and amount of an acidic compound catalyst and a solvent, a reaction temperature, or a reaction time. This (co)polymer has excellent surface activity, is very useful as a surfactant for use in organic and inorganic materials, and can be widely used as an emulsifier, dispersant, wetting agent, detergent, or smoothing agent. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
