abstract PURPOSE: To produce a quality polycarbonate in good efficiency, by reacting phosgene with an alkaline solution prepared from an aqueous slurry of a highly purified acicular crystals of a dihydroxydiphenylalkane. n CONSTITUTION: In producing a polycarbonate from (A) a dihydroxydiphenylalkane (e.g., 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl-2,2'-propane) and (B) phosgene; said component A comprises an aqueous alkaline solution prepared from an aqueous slurry of acicular crystals of dihydroxydiphenylalkane which are crystallized from a solution of a crude dihydroxydiphenylalkane in a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon (e.g., methylene chloride solution of crude bisphenol A).
