titleOfInvention Continuous production of polycarbonate granules
abstract PURPOSE:To produce uniform granules having a high density, by a method wherein a solvent of a solution of a polycarbonate is evaporated while exerting a shearing force on the solution by passing the solution through a gap so provided as to generate a shearing force. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbonate is dissolved in a solvent such as methylene chloride or chloroform to produce a solution. A shearing force is exerted on the solution by the gap 4 formed by a fixed disk 2 and a rotatable disk 3. When the solution is supplied through a supplying port 1 while rotating the disk 3 through a driving shaft 5, the solution is subjected to a shearing force and a centrifugal action by the velocity difference between the fixed disk 2 and the rotatable disk 3. Accordingly, upon receiving the strong shearing force, the solution is concentrated while being moved, and is gradually converted into granules in a collapsing manner, starting from the end of a string form material. The granules are repeatedly subjected to a granulating action until being discharged, so that they are made to be uniform granules.
