abstract |
PURPOSE: To obtain a rubber-like polymer of uniform quality, by determining the polymer viscosity and conversion of the polymerization mixture during and after the polymerization reaction in carrying out the emulsion polymerization of a synthetic rubber and controlling the reaction according to the measured values. n CONSTITUTION: In the continuous emulsion polymerization process for producing a synthetic rubber (e.g., styrene/butadiene copolymer), the measurement is made for the polymer conversion and viscosity of the polymerization mixture during and after the polymerization reaction. The measurement of polymer conversion (16) is carried out preferably by a differential pressure densitometer. A GPC device is used for the measurement of viscosity (17). These devices are used preferably on line. The GPC device is provided with an automatic sampling/ diluting device 17', and the polymer viscosity is determined by means of GPC. The desired polymer is obtained by comparing these measured values with their set values and controlling the factors of the polymerization reaction by the differences. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
