titleOfInvention | Composition for liquid crystal color display |
abstract | PURPOSE: To provide the titled composition having excellent light stability, high coloring power and high-level dichronism, by adding a specified quinophthalone dye to a liquid crystal. n CONSTITUTION: A quinophthalone dye of formula III is prepared by reacting an anhydride of formula I (where X is halogen, nitrile, lower alkyl or lower alkoxyl; n is 0W7) or a dicarboxylic acid obtained by hydrolyzing the anhydride, with an alcohol (derivative) of formula II (where R is halogen, straight-chain or branched alkyl or alkoxyl which may be substituted with nitrile, or alkylphenyl, alkoxyphenyl, alkoxyalkoxyphenyl or alkoxyalkylphenyl which may be linked to an oxygen atom with a lower alkylene interposed between them). The quinophthalone dye is added to a cyanobiphenyl or cyclohexanone type liquid crystal in an amount of 0.01W5wt%. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
